Stress acne: how to identify it and how to treat it

Acne is one of the most common skin problems; almost all people come to have it at some point in adolescence and continue to have problems with it for years. Acne is hormonal in puberty but stress-related in adults. 

There are “miraculous” cures, pills, soaps, creams, and aggressive treatments, but sometimes it seems that none of that works, and that may be because you are not treating the real problem. Acne is hormonal in puberty but stress-related in adults.

Second, stress makes the body inflamed, affecting the skin and worsening the acne problem. It also affects your immune system, affecting your body’s ability to fight acne independently. Finally, stress can also lead you to touch your face more than usual, which leads to dirt and bacteria.

Where does acne appear due to stress?

Doctors say it might vary, but if acne arises in the same spot repeatedly, it indicates sebum buildup. Inflammatory acne usually affects the T-zone, the oiliest part of your face.  It also often has large pores, shine, blackheads, white spots, and bumpy or granular skin.

How to treat stress-related acne

In addition to trying to keep your stress level under control, it is recommended that you follow a grooming “ritual”, incorporating a local topical treatment with substances such as salicylic acid, which can be found in any pharmacy. Hot compresses alleviate redness and pain in cystic acne. Acne is hormonal in puberty but stress-related in adults.

On the other hand, if the problem is recurring, experts recommend changing your skin care routine and looking for products that really help you. You may be using a greasy or unsuitable one, which will worsen the problem.

It is also recommended that you stay well hydrated, take care of your diet, and try to get enough sleep; all of these things have an impact on the appearance of the skin.
